Setting Sun Blues

The sun is setting upon the hill,
Where I once walked with my love,
I remember her well, standing still,
With the beauty of a young dove,
Now the winds blow heavy,
Through the sunlit veil,
And the distance seems so long,
And I hear her voice,
Within the coming rain,
And I know she is long and gone,

The dust has settled in the realm,
Where it once shook and flew,
Things seem cold and I’m getting old,
Without the lover I once knew,
I may know nothing,
With my eyes in a haze,
And my mind stuck in blue,
But if I had wings,
That could sail the sky,
I know I’d fly to you,

The brakeman is winding the clock,
And booze hounds, looking at the moon,
Notes of passion flutter within the night
The gunslinger’s wait for noon,
And yet while all men look,
Towards the setting scenes,
Of things they’ll never know,
I am stuck with images,
Of the shattered past,
That after years, won’t seem to go,

Goodbye my fairest maiden,
Of whom my love was true,
Goodbye my fairest women,
Who changed the life I knew,
Whose gonna hold you now,
While I’m drifting in the wind?
Whose gonna kiss your Spanish mouth,
While I’m lost in the wind?
