“I still don’t know what it was.”

After hours and hours
Itching
The back of my neck, the back of my calves
My forearms, my stomach…
Non-stop itching
I tossed and turned
Trying to forget the burning sensation
The fire beating down all over my body

Itchy and splotchy
Red
Spreading like a baby eating chocolate pudding
All over the god damn place
Hot
Cold
Sweat

I was popping Benadryl and Prednisone like they were M&Ms
Still itching and sweating
Still itching and spreading
I filled the tub with steaming water
Still sweating

I pulled out a chicken breast from the freezer
And placed it on the infected area
On all infected areas
The chicken thawed
The itching subsided
Only to return at a later hour
