Sunday Evening

The smoke is lingering in the air
I can feel the flames against my flesh
Grab, grab what you can
My body is shaking, continuously shaking
It’s a race, fire and water

I see red, I hear sirens, I feel…
The winds blow the red
Through family homes and parks filled with childhood memories
How much will it consume? How much will it take?

It’s a race, fire and water
Burning brushes and trees
Empty streets clouded with smoke
Sitting anxiously by the tv we wait
Awaiting the sirens to silence
