Security Blanket

You were my security blanket,
Warm and comforting,
Intriquite and all mine.
I’d carry you everywhere with me,
Made sure you were right by my side
You were my protection,
My comfort,
My strength.
Wrap you around me when I’m timid
And insecure.
You covered me with love,
I was safe and sound.
Free from bad dreams
And the monsters in the closet.
Oh I loved you ever so dearly,
Maybe too closely.
My grip was to tight you see,
A rip here,
A rip there.
A tear in the corner,
A snag on the side.
Threads coming loose,
Yarn unraveled.
Our love is in shreads,
A hopeless looking rag.
No needle and thread,
No sewing machine
Or grandmas loving fingers
Could ever fix you now.
