Dunmanus

On thermal currents
along the shore
Out and back,
Seeking silver sided fish
Glistening in the sun
A gull suspended
wing foil cupping
the warm gusts.

Finding a white stone,
The size of my palm
Naturally,
I examined how
to fashion
a keepsake for you.
A necklace perhaps,
So that you would
Remember me.

I smashed it
on a harder grey rock
Densities fought
Cracking and flaking
Instantly triumphing
Splintering forth,
sharpened marble thins,
The many sharded
Calcite scales
Of change signatures
A million years old
Echoing the silence.

Thrown in the lapping tide,
The tepid mint green star stuff
Where we flew
That you said you loved,
through the bathing froth
And took to the horizon
the momentous sanity
of our legend,
To swim with dolphins
Breaching in multiple arcs.
