A Seasonal Love

A SEASONAL LOVE

You found me in the spring
The grass was fresh with dew
Colour exploded into my life
All because of you

We held hands on country walks
We kissed in the meadow scene
But little was i to know
All this was but a dream

you wooed me with sweet gifts
You never left my side
A kisso-gram or love note
Pinned to every walkway sign

Then summer came with blistering heat
As our romance grew much more
We lay upon the sand filled beach
Admiring the carefree shore

We stayed out till the air was cool
And the moon was cast in night
Untill we shared our final gaze
And said our long goodbyes

“I’ll write to you always, my love”
Your sacred vow to me
“I’ll return for you soon, my love”
“To live my life with thee”

Autumn passed slow and dreary
Not a word nor sigh
My promise in this man wears weary
Was all he said a lie

A letter came, bearing news
His writing cold and unkind
For my supposedly betrothed
Had another girl in mind

The gossip got to me like the plague
About their big church wedding
While i cried and suffered
the illness quickly spreading

No longer any kissograms
No longer any kisses
In the spring he had married her
Now she is called his Mrs

So here’s the story of the girl
Who gave her purity
To the man who promised all
But loved half heartedly
