From Afar

I look at you from across the room,
And still I don’t know quite what to do
To make the words move with my feet;
To show you that I’m actually sweet.

As loud and boisterous as it gets,
It’s just flirtation, plain and simple, yet
The boundaries of play I never learned;
The wings of courage were never earned.

It’s a lot, to fight through such a cloud;
Dark with the past, a blinding shroud.
Scared like a dog to feel the pain
Of an owner come to betray again.

Someday I hope the piece that fits
the puzzle will let me call it quits.
So I can clear my head and finally say
Everything I show in my own way.
