Love and Pterodactyls

Why, oh why
Couldn’t pterodactyls have survived?
I’d love to see them in the sky
Gliding on their membranous wings
Under a dinosaur-y heaven,
And upsetting all the passengers
Of every 747.

The birds we have today, I guess
They’re fine enough for now;
But tell me, have you ever seen
Them dive-bomb into a cow?
Do you think it’s even possible
They’d consider making it their food?
They think too small, if they think at all;
I know the pterodactyl would.

But thanks to whichever mass event
Wiped all the cool reptiles out,
I’m left to dream a dead love up;
To shed light on what they were about.
