Petals

The flower of which I’ve much avowed
A love in growth, has in wealth bowed,
And I can not bear to turn around
As the petals fall onto the ground;
And the petals fall onto the ground.

With obsession blind and creeping fear,
I try my best to bring my dear
Lilly back, where she’s since frowned;
But her petals keep to coming down,
And the petals fall onto the ground.

A single sign, what do you need?
You will not eat when I try to feed.
Sustained on my blood, your thorns do drown
And the process continues safe and sound;
And the petals fall onto the ground.

There’s not much left a man can do
Once he’s given up his soul to you;
From twisted roots, we’re both now bound,
And the beating heart does cease to pound;
And the petals fall onto the ground

And the petals fall onto the ground.
