Effigy

When we rake
The sleep from our eyes;
When the clouds break and light shines down,
Who will be the first to die?

Laid bare, we for the first time
See the naked truth, disgusting
And we cry;
How could we have ever known?
Blind we were, and without ears;
No one wanted to be shown.

Mud is all we ever learned;
Hardening in the night’s cold,
In the fresh air are we now burned
In pain, it slowly melts away;
Swept out, gone is the old and
We return to the clay.
