Sing a Song for Me

Mother, Father;
I never heard your bedtime lulls,
I still pretend I do.

Lover, honest
I wish I’d spent my borrowed time
Carrying my voice aloud to you.

Clever words and lost melodies
I’d spent so much time searching for,
sitting in steam, and holding warmth
for that comfort I adore.

Never once a wonder, then
It’s moved along and left me be.
Silence creeps along, all I ask;
Who’ll sing a song for me?
