Winter's Chill

It seems we met just yesterday
My half of hopes and fear.
When did you give your strength away;
Is it because I can’t be near?

I come to rescue you again;
To find the voice that makes you sing.
But it feels as though I may fall short;
A candidate for a pair of wings.

Winter has arisen, and I can feel the freeze.
It comes harsh and livid, cutting as it would please.
It’s a ninth hell that I seem to plow through,
Though I miss when the sun would shine;
As it filled me with a driving warmth,
something I could call uniquely mine.

Yet there’s only so far that one can go
In seeking to find the way back home
Before they’re taken by the demon snow
And left as spirits damned to roam.
