I Will Never Know Your Name

I Will Never Know Your Name

When I first learned of you I was tinted, like rose
My swelling stomach, was snug in my clothes
Reality fought me in the end I gave in
What followed then –the ultimate sin

Those whitewashed walls but nothing was pure
When making that choice how could I be sure
A decision of violence would tear us in two
The battle lines drawn, me versus you

In a furious sea of redness my mistake washed away
I fell on my sword and I died on that day
What I extinguished was more than your soul
Possibilities endless, from you,  I stole

I looked in the mirror, a stranger looked back
Reflection revealed that my morals were black
And every year when your birthday had passed
My heart a flag that flew at half mast

Now many years on, more children have come
My life it is yellow they fill me with sun
They say you cant miss what you never had
But I’ve never had you and sometimes, I’m sad.
