The Day My Parents Let Go

I remember the way her blue eyes looked when she saw he had been staring into another woman’s eyes

The pale on her face must have been indication of how he took every last bit of her.

I always said he took her soul the day he took away his vows

I don’t remember hearing them laugh together, but I do remember being on my mothers hip during one of there rampages and she was screaming so loud her voice echoed in my rib cage and stuck in my brain harder then he had her around her throat.

Blinds got ripped off of windows that night, and it not much has made much sense since then.

—The day my parents let go.
