Independence Day

The fourth of July should remind us, of course,
Without sacrifices of others things could be worse;
The price paid for freedom—remember, my son,
Courage and wisdom and wars hard won.

Liberty must flourish in a framework of laws
Tolerant and just and for righteous cause;
Freedom of life, liberty and happiness are rights we pursue
Without denying that to others—these privileges are due.

Their task was not easy—our patriots we bless
No primrose path did they follow—little time to guess;
This day recognizes a foundation where freedom was built
Let’s pray that in life’s gamble the right way will be tilt.

Independence Day—a meaningful holiday
Commemorating a new nation and men who a full price did pay;
Forefathers who pledged lives, fortunes and honor
Had they been weak-kneed, our country a sure goner!

Love of country is a matter of heart
With devotion to liberty ne’er let free men depart.
Firm’s our belief in traditions sincere,
These rights we’ll defend, to us they’re most dear.

Respect of law and order goes with love of country
To flaunt constitutional concepts a blasphemous effrontery;
A priceless heritage forged in ‘76
Give me strength and loyalty to be of the same mix.
