Living As A Ghost

I walk down all the hallways
It’s the same thing always
I make footsteps on the echoing floors
I open and close all the doors
I know they hear my voice
This lifestyle is my choice
They know when I’m here
and when I disappear
They will sometimes see me
But they will never speak to me
Maybe a smile here and there
But even that is usually rare
I’m living like a ghost
And that’s what I love the most

(2013)

The day after graduation, I moved out of my parent's house. The only thing I could afford was to rent a room in this nice family's house. This poem is about my life here. Feeling as though I'm just a part of their house that comes and goes and makes noise. They talk to me, but hardly ever unless it's wondering where the rent money is. Strangely, I like it. I like this life.
