The Companion
On this fresh and bright Spring day
I heard you call my name,
You said come and take a walk with me
So up the path I came.
The sun was warm, the breeze felt cool
No clouds were in the sky,
A perfect day for a walk I thought
As I watched a dove fly by.
My mind began to wander
What will become of me,
Then came doubt and worry,
Of where my path will lead.
The fear of just not knowing
Of what my future holds,
Will I have friends and family,
When one day I grow old?
He said take a look ahead of you
And tell me what you see,
There are things I want to show you
Will you walk with me?
My thoughts came back as I looked ahead
I saw my path turn right;
The trees and shrubs hid my view
Of something new just out of sight.
As I round the bend, I held my breath
As His beauty did unfold,
The sight that lay before me
First time my eyes behold.
Wildflowers dressed the hillside,
All colors on display
The calming sound of a nearby brook
Joined the symphony of sounds at play.
Like music filled my senses,
My anxious thoughts depart
He said keep your feet upon my path
And I will guide your heart.
He said take a look above you
Now tell me what you see,
I said I see the tree tops dancing
And waving back at me.
I see the wind that blows them
As I watch these giants sway,
I think what strength and power
That makes them move this way.
He asked do you truly see the wind
I laughed and said, well no,
But I know that it’s really there
As the trees moved to and fro.
He said though you cannot see my face
Just know I’m always there,
I’ve come to give you life and hope
I will never leave your care.
I’ll walk with you, I’ll talk with you
His truth just lays beyond
I will show you many wondrous things
His love became our bond.
Our journey here is brief
His wisdom I impart,
As fire tests the purity of silver and gold
God will test the heart.
