Hourglass

I watch the sands of time.
They grind off the color in your hair to a blinding white,
Completing the paleness of your wintry air.
The coolness of your facade belies the burning in your heart,
The fires that warm me in dark times such as are so familiar to us.
The grains that have etched our harsh pasts onto our skin,
Are the same ones that move those troubles behind us now.
They propel us towards each other,
Closing the rift that has kept us apart for so long.
The hourglass has been flipped for us.
In our second life, we are not denied this joining of flesh and bone.
We are purged of stillborn dreams and washed of failure.
Every trace of bitter regret,
That had rooted it’s thorny fingers into our beings,
Is ripped out, we are remade.
I make myself open only to your love,
To the sound of your breathing,
To the vibrations of your voice chasing out the demons in my head.
Aways remember yourself like this, Beloved,
This is who you are when you are with me.
You, who are all kindness and purposeful action.
You, to whom all of my affections are addressed.
