Footprints in the sand, but none in front of us

As we walked holding hands one late afternoon

But behind us, the waves wash away our tracks

Like we never were! And it made us feel picayune

In this universe with its billion galaxies!

We’re here one moment, and gone much too soon

No monuments to celebrate our earthly stay

No lays nor eulogies, no one to play our tune!

As long as you know you lived!.. And it was beautiful :)

Thank you Laila. I'm glad you like it, even though it's a tad pessimistic in outlook.

Yes this life can seem very short. Always enjoy your writing Vic, I've faved a few of your poems, and every time I go back to read them I see why.

I like reading your poems as well. They are always uplifting and they edify the human spirit. I have written some sad poetry myself, but I always try to incorporate a life lesson in all of them.

Somehow I think we do live on in people we love and other lives we have
touched. Nice poem, makes you appreciate being alive and the time
you have left.

Thanks for liking Barb. Indeed, we cherish the chance to leave a few more footprints in the sand, before the big waves wash them all away.

There's a few more places I'd like to see. When I go to North Dakota next summer, I will have slept at least one night in all 50 states. Then I will start a new bucket list. LOL

A minute moment in time very insignificant in the grand scheme of the Milky Way not to mention the totality of the cosmos and its parallel universes, that's the time our Creator had given us. And reminded us as we look back and not see our footprints in the sand. So we make good of our allotted time here on earth and leave meaningful footprints that do not wash away from our loved ones and friends and nature and enemies as well.
A good place to be, on the beach to reflect, to "write love letters on the sand", to dream - leave footprints swept away but made.

Meaningful reflection, Brod. Like.

Thank you for liking Brod.

This poem is in direct contrast to earlier poems I wrote, like Cosmos and Eternity. In those poems, I expressed our hopes that we are one with the cosmos and that we will enjoy eternity, as a fitting reward for our earthly stay. This poem holds the opposite view that we are minuscule, insignificant and little consequence. A pessimistic outlook! But a temporary lapse into gloom, I sincerely hope.

I guess we are just a fleeting moment in time, or the timelessness of it. Good poem. Makes me think

Some creatures don't even have footprints or the consciousness of it. So we matter don't we?
