The Secret

"You get old and you realize there
are no answers, just stories."
~Garrison Keillor

The secret he’ll keep till the day he dies

No one will know, his lips sealed forever

Confession he did, eyes toward the skies

The truth to his Maker and Redeemer

Not ‘nother woman neither an affair

And no forbidden illicit pleasures

No theft, murder that anyone’s aware

Neither pot of gold nor buried treasures

The decades passed; now ninety-five years old

Fruitful exciting life he’s been given

Through the years his secret remained untold

It helps that the secret he’s forgotten!

Thus, be grateful! The blessings of old age

He’ll keep the promise as he leaves the stage

“Old age is an excellent time for outrage. My goal is to say or do at least one outrageous thing every week.”
