Different

Cast into this,
through the fire,
the winters reckoning.

These tired strides,
pass the serpentine catch.

“You’ve come so far,”
whispered in the folds,
swept  in the currents of stasis.

Each carved god,
footless to follow,
kneeled only to unhinge.

And now,
without providence,
quietus attends, never too sure.

Here and there,
impudent to conceal
the black heart soul.

I, the lonely traveler
lost, the fire trekked
till the icy compass fills

even the slit of memory.
