A Love Poem For America

by V.

He leaves me speechless because he takes my voice away.

He burns but still I stay. He’s surrounded by oceans taking in all of my praise.. I know one day he’ll love me and I’ll continue fighting for him until I stop breathing.  I want him more than I want myself  but he’s in love with someone else,  though I made him who he is today, everyday I pray to a God he made for one day it’s my name he proclaims. He lies and he lies well, but it tastes so good. He covers the truth with a piece of symbolism but still I feel numb, high off my alleged freedom.  You can see it but it’s not there, like the wind that separates me from the clean ones. It’s who he prefers. The ones I could never be. The ones that are actually free. He is 238 years old and he never looked better. Such a young man, compared to others but attains all the power. He is the richest. He walks around with his noise high as everyone crumbles underneath, wanting what he has, just a glimpse and  I follow because I  believe, my nameless ancestry that remains faceless did the same. This feels like a dream and could be nothing more but others before me were forced to sacrifice their freedom, life, and identities to make it reality. America’s glistening white skin, a genital of power, in love with the opposite, the top of an Empire.  He’s so pure. I can’t help but adore despite it’s me he destroyed. I’m in love but I want out. I can’t leave him even though he’s not mine.
