Perfect lover

I am awash with tears of mourning
for what I thought was dead and gone,
as though a flood of holy water
has broken through the stony dam
I contrived to spare this brittle heart.

I am old now.
I am mostly spent and worn.

I have come now to accept,
this bent and withered tree
is long beyond the bearing
of fruit or flower.

I have laid to final rest
the last of many last remains
of lover’s, wives and friends.

Yet I see her there,
at the corner of these clouded eyes.
between awake and dreaming.

My perfect lover waits for me

Just as summer’s cleansing rains
unveil the awe of nature’s splendor,
these welcome griever’s tears erase
what kept me from her sweet embrace

My perfect lover waits for me.
