The Eye

The Eye of Mother Nature. Is powerful and absolute.
Waltzing along the Pacific floor gracefully. Glorious. Oblivious.
Her gaze is fixed and precise, progressing
With coiled intensity. Her glare shadows destruction and torment.
But She is not the harbinger of tribulation nor death.
She doesn’t know the greater and lesser; the right and wrong.
Everything that holds value is seen insignificant before Her eyes.
She shows no interest in individuality.
She is unfamiliar with beliefs and morals.
But this doesn’t mean that She is evil nor ignorant.
In Her eyes we are tiny specks of life quivering upon Her arrival.
She represents neither good nor bad.
Her presence stresses the importance of life and death.
We can’t be compared to Her beauty and honesty.
We are not to question Her authority.
We are merely spectators to Her cataclysmic charm.
Lost in Her eye.

(2013)

This poem describes the beauty, innocence and destructive power of the hurricane that recently struck my home country the Philippines. It was known to be the strongest in recorded history. I pay my condolence by dedicating this poem to my fellow Filipinos all over the world, most specially the victims from the Philippines.
