HILJAA HYVÄ TULEE

‘Time is a healer’ : fools heed such a lie;
The reward of reason
Is the steadying balm,
Not of a childe
Seeking assurance
From a man who lost his mind.
Death doesn’t appear
In front or from behind–
It suddenly sits beside.

You gifted lights to allay me
Of your absence,
I watched the bulbs
Go out one by one.
I must turn each to mould.
Sinking below my feet;
Naked, phrenzy, injury!
Adrift an echoey-dark well.
If you need me,
Find me in the fog
Of your memory.

Five hundred and fifty
Fire alarms.
One wonders the worth
Of that which cannot be touched,
Yet is the only thing which endures.
‘All travel is saying farewell’ :
So it goes.
