That Child

I saw him,
standing alone in the rain,
crying for someone to love him.
Hungry,
lost,
wearing rags instead of clothes.
My heart broke watching him,
as he searched for a place to call home.
I couldn’t do nothing.
So I ran out,
abandoning the shelter of my house,
and went to him.
Folded him in my arms
and as tears coursed down my cheeks,
I offered him what no one else was willing.
He held on tight,
as if afraid to let go.
Then he looked up,
and his eyes shone with so much love.
“Thank you,” was all he said.
I took him in,
fed him,
clothed him,
and before I went to bed that night,
I kneeled beside my bed and thanked God.
Thanked him for the chance to meet him,
not physically,
but in the face of that child.

Another challenge from Cory Garcia. He challenged me to write a poem, "about GOD taking the form of a homeless child and searching for someone to provide a home and tender loving care." I twisted it a bit and wrote of a homeless child searching for a home, and a women finding the love of God, for everyone of his children, in the face of that child.
