Marbles

To those left behind

We were young
But that’s not allowed,
Not anymore.
Time is no friend to the elderly, or to the pained.
The marbles we shared
Hiding in our secret spot,
A place no one else knew of.
The hours we cherished
In that place of ours.
When it was time to leave,
We were always reluctant.
But one time we were
Playing, and the marbles were lost.
We couldn’t find any of them,
No matter how we looked.
After hours of cherished time was wasted, we discovered one lone glass sphere.
A favourite of ours.
A deep violet with a wavy strip of red occupying the center.
We buried it by a pile of stones in the center of our place.
Many years passed, and we didn’t come as often.
You went to a place I couldn’t follow.
You left me behind, so cruel.
And one day I remembered our marble, how we loved it.
So I went to your bed if earth, and dug a little hole.
And left our piece of happiness with you.
