I Once

My life is well lived. Like a pair of worn out jeans, I'm torn and tattered but I faded into a nice shade of gray.

I once flowed like a river,
slow and steady.
Now I flow like a flood,
fast and overran.

I once bloomed like a lovely rose,
perfumed and thorny.
Now I bloom like a weed,
fast and overgrown.

I once slept like a baby,
quiet and cute.
Now I sleep like the sun,
none and I still have time to rise.

I once learned like a schoolgirl,
engaged and willing.
Now I learn like a grown lady,
willing and ready.

(2015)

I wrote this poem to show that I aged gracefully.
