Born Alive

Born alive
Scattered breathing
Kites wagging with the wind
Cussing and churning and craving
I can only see when I’m alone.

It’s harder to stay alive.
Shadows like welts on my back
He means well.
His currency in stars
His mind like a foghorn
He drums with the shattered earth.

Take me to your planet
I want to see the blackness erupt into a blanket of diamonds
I want to climb into the misty layers of your stratosphere
Sail the milky rivers of golden hues and taste the sun-dipped rain
Feel your spirit melt and boil and embrace the clouds
Stand alone.
Counting breaths.

It was never a question of sanity.
Mine fled a thousand years ago.
Yours was never there to start.

It was never a question of faith.
I am a descendant of the faithless.
You are the son of fireflies.

My hands are cold.
Maybe because when you’re around
My heart needs more blood.
Or maybe I’m just cold blooded like a reptile.

It was never a question of truth.
I’ve never told a lie.
Your heart beats in riddles.

It’s easy to die.
Fall backwards into the smokey sky
Sucked into stillness.
A black hole like a vacuum cleaner
Companions with dirt particles and air bubbles.
Maybe I was always floating
Drifting like the wisps of a dandelion
Visiting roofs and chimneys,
bouncing off of heads,
skating, sliding, skidding, gliding
over hedges and trees and branches.
I like it here.
Just close my eyes.
Let the wind take my consciousness.
I don’t need these thoughts.
Just let them melt.
Maybe one day I’ll be an ocean.
