Behind Her Mask

She wears a mask.
A mask he asked.
Yes a mask.
A mask she puts on every morning.
With a brush
and some blush.
With a stick
and a gloss.
With a face powder
that needs to be touched up every hour.
A mask to hide her tears.
A mask to hide her fears.
He asked, “why hide and not let us see what could be”.
She responds,
“my mask is unique.
to hide my flaws.
to cover up so you cant see it all.
my water lines red,
just like the stains on my bed.
the tears burn
because i never know where to turn.
my mask does you a favor.
do not let your upper lip quiver.
dont worry my dear,
there is nothing to fear.
now dry your eyes
and let me re-apply.”
