The Glory

by Azalea Stalking

Take a picture
take a liking to it
take my photo
take my clothes with it
understand me, and all the metro politics
take my garden
take it’s dirt and turn it into damp coverage for the carcases
find the childhood room with the empty bed and painted stone walls in front of it

find it’s nightmares underneath the mattress
did you finally discover it?
her hiding body in all it’s glory, wasn’t there
unaware of the gardenia bush, of the sprinklers showering over it,
it’ll remain there for decades
becoming the ghost case
the flowers scent masking
the picnics and smoky grills outside
obituaries, and their charred taste
the polaroids and dirty wrappers of a cherry drop
spotted and melted
discarded on a rug floor

This poem 'The Glory' explores the story behind the last picture taken of a missing person
