The death of a relationship
hit him like death itself.

Feelings of  loss
vise-grip his core.
He feels for the bereaved
their anguish—
the same anguish he feels
himself, himself bereaved.
Two kinds of grief:
One kind felt for them
whose oneness ended—
shattering many dreams.
Another kind for them
whose loss rips them apart—
hearts torn between two
estranged, wounded hearts.
He misses innocent laughter,
and happy moments
of them not so innocent,
more than he misses his own
laughter and happy moments
with them now parted
in enmity.
What can bring back the joy?
How will the wounds heal?
When will the sorrows end?
Can he come to terms?
He cannot ascribe blame
as a kind of escape —
making the grief’s grip tighter,
Where does he find solace
for himself,
let alone for the most innocent,
most broken-hearted,
most implacable?
How he wished it was
just a bad dream.
Alas, it is not.

The death of a relationship
hit him like death itself;
save that the death’s victims –
themselves not dead—
like the co-bereaved,
live to bring back inadvertently
again and again the sadness—
the inadvertence
adding poignance.
It makes no difference
if it is a first
or a second death.
He sees no end
to the lingering pain—
save perhaps in appearance—
till his own end.

If only we all know the scripture.. If only we see how profound the meaning, and how far-reaching the implications of not heeding. Thanks very much for the nice words and the scriptural verse.

Divorce is always a sad affair!““For the LORD God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one’s garment with violence,” Says the LORD of hosts. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously.””
