Aodhan

You were so tiny when you finally got here,
the first week of your life I lived in pure fear.
Dr.'s, nurses, machines and tubes galore,
to this day I don’t know what they all were for.
Your skin was yellow and the lights were so bright,
you’re my child so I knew you were up for the fight.
On your own you couldn’t breathe,
then one day the Dr. asked me to leave.
He said it was time you needed to try,
I stood in that hallway and could do nothing but cry.
Seemed like forever until he returned,
good news he said you have finally leaned.
I couldn’t hold you cause u still weren’t in the clear,
but when nobody was looking I’d reach in and touch your hand to let u know I was here.
Minutes into hours and hours into days,
you slowly got better and I offered God my praise.
You were finally home after a week,
all I could do is hold u and put unlimited kisses upon your cheek.
Your mom’s little trooper I knew it for sure,
even though at that time I had no idea the life you would endure.
I will always be here for you no matter what happens or what you do,
I will love, encourage and help to carry you through.
I am more then your mother I am your friend,
You can depend, and trust me well beyond the end.
