The Shadow of Your Heart

Your heart is a rock
Beyond all the fickle tides
And when the moon pulls the waves against you
And your lashing bites my sand
I lay still, for I know your true shape
And on the beach, I see the shadow of your heart

Believe me, dear one
I know how the wind can lie
For in the gales of our discontent
When all we hear are the howling fears
And the demons of doubt
It is hard to see the shore

But know, beyond these storms
The rock still stands, wet with the salt of a thousand tears
And like the sailor coming home
I aim my bow and plunge ahead
For I have seen the flash of your lighthouse
And I have sailed this passage before

Believe me, dear one
I know that place of deadness
When the fog has eaten the trees
And the heart is hidden
When we cry silently, believing this illusion
Of the death of love

But know this truth:
Your heart is a rock, as solid as time
And when the moon sleeps, and the air is soft and bright
It will appear again, whole
And hungry for my hands to hold you
And my kisses, like butterflies, on your hair
For in the shadow of your heart, I will, be there
