The Lady of the Sea

It’s me

In your dark sunset eyes
The highs and the lows of the midnight skies
Take me away
Drag me far into the night
Swallow me whole
I’ll become the sunlight

Glowing incandescently
Amidst the late summers heat
Can’t talk about my nightmares
Cause they’re fast asleep
Drowning in the ocean
But my feet aren’t wet
Trying to remember but I’ll never forget

Low set gaze
Staring deep into my soul
Trying to tell a story
That nobody else would know

Sailors come washing down the tides all the time
Until a pretty little mermaid finds her way inside
The sailor is a captive but he feels at home
Slipping beneath the current
He’s never felt less alone
And there she sits
Lips curled at the edge of his bed
Whispering sweet nothings
That no one has said
To his kind hearted self
But I pity the fool
Who was swept away at sea
The dark enchantresses can be so cruel
But the truth is
That sailor never lifted his feet
They say he died at the seashore
And that succubus was me

But dear
Let me remind you
I’m a creature of the waves
Not the death beneath them
Or the lives that they may take

I can’t control their tempers
For I’m not Poseidon with a trident
But when the wind becomes too rowdy
Lick the lashes
Bleed inside them

Tear away down through the salt in the sea
Star and jelly fish kissing your feet

Sweet salmon silence
Wash away at the shores
Taste the sunset
Until darkness is there no more

Sorry, sailor
Your life was all but not
You see
I’ve already died a hundred times
Savages, bloodthirsty demons
Have come to take my life

No, I do not want yours
But I do not want less
So I’ll take your payment for your sins
As a bitter mannered death
