Victim of the Sea

The ocean swells, flowing steadily across the channel.
The wind blows sweet with cool, clean, salty air.
Waves crash violently against the sea wall,
Breaking off, piece by piece, the city’s protection.

Finally, the power of the rough waters is too great.
The wall collapses.
Flood waters surge through the city streets,
Pulling victim after victim out to the never-ending sea.

A limp body lies on the island’s shores.
Insects buzz curiously around her ear.
No one will find her, this victim of the sea.
Another soul lost to the depths of Davy Jones Locker.
