lord of the wild

as I came through the forest,
riots of color and sound and scents of the earth,
the brambles opened up unto a whole new world.

ancient,
dark,
brooding,
a world that wasn’t for Man,
but instead was ruled by a crownless lord,
brown furred,
black clawed,
sharp teeth stained,
blood and berry.

I looked upon this standing lord,
sunlight dappling him through the trees,
in awe of the power,
the ancient feelings,
fear and worship,
kinship and desire to take his spirit into myself,
genetic memories of devouring his heart before
battle
hunting
journeys to the other realm.

and as he gazed upon me,
the lord of the wild
I came back to myself,
and left this king to his kingdom.
but I was never the same,
and never wanted to be again,
for the lord had left his mark upon me.

Just a poem about the bear, worshiped by our ancient ancestors in numerous countries and cultures.
