Layers, From Love to Loathe

Ah, new love, getting to know each other. Much like spring, the excitement of a change for the better. Like a warm sunny day, the song birds coming around, the sprouting of buds on the trees, green replacing barren landscape. The ability to shed some layers that had kept you protected from the climate. Embracing the change. Loving the newness.
Passion follows, heating up like summer days. The fun and exciting exploration, the intense heat shared. Like a summers day at the beach, basking in all of the direct heat, taking breaks in the shade to rest. The ability to freely be with little to no layers, yet still so much warmth felt. Loving all of the heat.
Comfort comes, cozy and cuddly. Like sharing a blanket by a bonfire, taking a stroll hand in hand, gazing into each other’s eyes in a comfortable silence, replacing words with feelings. In awe of the green changing into a complex spectrum of red, orange, yellow, and brown. Creating warmth by sharing layers with one another. Enjoying the coziness.
Complacency intrudes, suddenly it’s not so warm. Like a brisk winters wind, the frost on the windows, the ice on the eves, the snow piling up, and the shiver from the cold in the air. Bewildered why anyone would subject themselves to such misery, that feeling of being somewhere arctic and desolate even though you know others are around. The need to start protecting yourself with layers. Loathing this loneliness.
