To You My Love

by Daniel Scott

This poem goes out to you, my love,
my fiery mistress gifted from France.
She whom resides on that island where we fell in love,
she whom is always a majestic sight to behold.

My love, my guardian angel,
the truth has been difficult to admit to you
that I am lost.

I am at war with myself, my soul and my mind corrupted.
My soul is in moral dilemma,
my mind is ill with a plague that hastens my cognitive decline.
It toys with me, it mocks me.
This plague came in the form of whispers of sinful words,
making me question if my love for you is fact or conspiracy.

It controls me to walk a dark path in which light is nonexistent.
Every step I take, the darker it becomes, the sounds of demonic whispers growing louder.
What lies beyond the dark? Why am I being forced to walk upon it?
My heart pounds on my chest as if it wants to break free,
my body shivers upon the cold, death-like sensation creeping up to me
as if at any given moment, I may appear facing Satan’s front door.

To you my love, I yearn for your warmth, your guidance.
Light that torch I love to see you wield
to illuminate my path,
to expose the elephants in the room,
the demons that plague my mind and poison my soul,
so that at the end of the path, I may follow your light
and know that you will be there to await my embrace.

To you my love, my shining beacon of liberty,
vanquisher of deceiving demons,
only through your light may I walk the right path.
