Tongue in Chains

Words get trapped,
Caught like a fox in headlights,
Startled. These are the ramblings
Of a mad woman, forever wrapped
In skin. No exposure.
They need air to survive,
Without it they lose all substance,
Vanishing. But they resurface,
And like the fox, they wish to escape
The eyes of monsters.
And you’ll never
Know the means behind my
Chains. My truths are tangled,
Weeds. Startled foxes
Caught up in weeds,
Getting nowhere.
Circles, circles, circles,
The words are running
Circles in my head, they
Search frantically.
A way out.
And now you’ll never
Know what my heart
Wants you to know,
This fox is caught in
Your headlights.
