Assumptions and Realities

You assume everyone is a book unread,
Full of depth, full of stories untold,
But more often than not, they’re just empty pages,
A hollow shell with nothing to behold.

You assume everyone has something to say,
That their words are profound and wise,
But more often than not, they’re just mindless chatter,
A meaningless stream of babble and lies.

You assume everyone has a soul,
That their spirit can be a guide,
But more often than not, they’re just self-centred,
A narcissistic ego that cannot be denied,

You assume everyone is unique,
With experiences that shape who they are,
But more often than not, they’re just boring and bland,
A copycat clone that follows the bar.

You assume everyone is searching,
For meaning, purpose, and love,
But more often than not, they’re just lost and confused,
A directionless wanderer without a shove.

You assume everyone has a past,
That their story is worth hearing,
But more often than not, it’s just a tale of woe,
A sob story meant to evoke some caring.

You assume everyone is flawed,
And that they make mistakes along the way,
But more often than not, they’re just irresponsible,
A careless fool with nothing to say.

You assume everyone is a gift,
To be cherished and loved each day,
But more often than not, they’re just a burden,
A weight to bear without any pay.

You assume everyone has a voice,
And that their words can be a gift,
But more often than not, they’re just empty promises,
A broken vow that cannot be fixed.

You assume everyone is a book unread,
Full of depth, full of stories untold,
But more often than not, they’re just a waste of time,
A pointless endeavour that should be sold.
