Loved Faces

Loved faces in the fire-light, happy faces,
Gold heart of the gay rose that was my home,
Honey-source, hidden core of rich increases,
In your sweet haven, warm calm’s charmed bloom,
Gone long since to the land where summer ceases,
Lost in a fog-world now boundless gloom,

I have pursued you, swept with wild-wind pasion
My perished fields, my frozen woods profound,
Have walked in vain with snowy faiths that fashion
Of icy groves a shining host, star-crowned—
Can I bide only with the dream-possession,
My white Yule-rose, cold as its wintry ground?
