It is Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023 in Bakersfield, California,
I’m house-sitting for friends visiting New York,
I walked to the sports bar and ordered drinks,
I am unbothered, alone, firmly placed in the in-between,
I walk back inconspicuously to my friend’s residence,
I watch a short film in which David Lynch interrogates a monkey.
His work always enchants me,
Though I can’t fully explain what any of his movies are about.
Which currently parallels my life,
Because I can’t explain that either.
Everything feels strange and abstract, the subtext is ambiguous,
Just like a David Lynch movie.
