The Colours

The Colours Are Almost Gone

‘Countless bursts of colours swim before my eyes.’
Vivid explosions of expression
That know no bounds
That never had bounds
They burst forth in ecstatic energy
They put up fences, walls and borders
And rainbows of rejoicing turned to falling tears of rain

The colours are in danger!

The topaz rays of the sun forever brilliant
The azure sapphire of the seas forever crashing
The emerald of the trees forever steadfast
The ruby of the dawn forever accompanying the morn
The obsidian of the night sky forever adorned with
The pearly moon forever winking
The colours are no longer forever
Storms booming with their trumpets of fury
Earthquakes of fitful sleep
Tornadoes dancing a swirling waltz
Hurricanes twisting with a wild grace

The colours are in danger!

Why does no one else see the colours?
Why are they trying to fade the colours?
Endless greed, abuse and gluttony
In our pride, we forget the colours
They count their money
And with lust we count our possessions
They flaunt their fame
And we cheer for them in envy
And all the while the colours disappear
Open your eyes
Can’t you see
This endless tyranny

Is killing them!

... Slowly...
The topaz cracks
The sapphire shatters
The emerald fades
The ruby cries
The obsidian melts and
The pearl is lost
They twinkle once, and are gone

They are almost gone

Don’t let them leave!
Once they’re gone we can’t get them back
‘A few glimmers of colour swimming before our eyes.’
What will we see tomorrow?
What will our children see tomorrow?
And their children after?
What happens when we lose all of the colours?
Remember the colours, before they are forgotten
And remember the topaz sun shining above
The azure seas crashing against the borders of
Emerald forests glowing in
The ruby dawn accompanied by
The obsidian of the night sky with its
Pearly moon

Because all of the colours are in danger!

They’re almost gone
‘A single flare of colour swimming before their eyes.’
