Bondage

People of the inner cities - Nassau, Bahamas

Bondage
I dreamt one day …
I would beat the struggle with my bear strength,
I would catch him from his feet and
He would land directly on his rear end.
No set figured salary
Nags and stress each dawn of the morning
Naïve voices pulsating into my cerebrum
No more stuffy radios created by broken appliance
Tampered with lots of static and efficient nonsense
Mixed races,
Combined cultures,
Pissed folks,
Empty cupboards and
Filthy houses mass of
Echo and scattered furniture
However, hallow to the max.
Heavy head and a weak heart
Fluids of rugged past events and secrets rot
While pleading for simple peace and
Safe havens but
Sucking off mad drama and
Worries me like demons
Frightened by angels

Dreaming of …
Being in college
Eliminating all oppression
Feeding my mental
Before my physical
Ignoring illness,
Offspring and
Depression
Miss Independent
Single females raising relatives
Birthing multiple roles just
Praying for better days while
Idol boys and girls wherever resuming
Play ball in the afternoon,
Talk gibberish through
The voice boxes of
Communication lines as
They flunk with
F grades on
National exams

I pictured …
Saying goodbye to this place called
The Projects
People
Relying
On
Just
Enough
Cash
To
Survive
And
To my surprise
I won’t be a groupie rather
Taking trips to destinations
Where I would kiss hope and
Romance with progress
To stop living in a world that
Begins and
Ends as far as
I step my feet out my front door
To help people facing adversities
To be an advocate
Not just a
Law-abiding citizen
To impact the lives of many, regardless of
Gender,
Nationality,
Religion or
Status economically
To formulate a unity that would
Make men weep and
Women want to cry along, naturally

I had many dreams and then others
But
War with life was
Forcing me to
Forsake affirmative action
Leaving me with merely
A sack of dry raisins
In the sun
Still blazing ideas, indeed but
Will barely be eaten without
Motivation
