Sleepy Girl

Sleep has never been an easy adventure
A battle since infancy
The panic stricken dread I feel is utterly daunting
What will happen when I close my eyes
Scrapping of a butter knife inside my skull
It slowly drags down behind my eyes
Back and forth it scratches
Etching a path
There is no such thing as a peaceful slumber
Least not alone
There’s something watching me
Expecting
Waiting
If I close my eyes, who or what will come?
Who will see?
What is waiting?
I must sleep
Must close my eyes
Will you guard the fair child?
Will you embrace her within your arms as she clutches you with her cold sweaty hands
Sleep sweet girl
I’ve taken the night
Sleep sweet girl
Sleep
