The Religion of Illusion

As I lay here, unable to sleep
For the nightmares and weep,
Slumbering after a fable,
Without thought or pause,
The ubiquitous distortion of cause,
the re-forcing of a conjured OZ.

Restless, without a wink,
haunted by a fairy-told group-think,
I dared to dream Mary had no lamb,
and in that dream was summarily damned.
Evacuated from the womb of a succubus,
Expelled into the light by her distrust.

Guilty shall I weep for those left behind,
Within the fata morgana of Mankind.
Wandering in the womb of the blind,
Searching in fairy-tales for the divine.
Condemned to nightmares and the night,
Hexed by the certainty of Snow White.

(2013)

This poem uses mythos references to characterize the non-reality based influences of an immature humanity, captivated and keep in the dark by religious dogma, fairy-tales.

OZ - the idea of a God that directly interacts with our lives: The Wizard of Oz

Mary's Lamb - a reference to Jesus and how doubters are treated
Succubus = Religion

The Womb of the Succubus: A womb keeps its occupant in the dark while being comforting, a metaphor for religion. It is also the CAVE of Plato's allegory.

Snow White is a metaphor for Heaven: White snow = purity, Snow White = beauty and innocence.
