Main Course

While sitting alone in a restaurant, a glass of chocolate mousse
 Arrived at my table
Swirled perfectly in it’s dish, I admired the way stiff peaks formed
And it’s rich chocolate filled my nose with an irresistible aroma

I picked up my spoon and found that the taste more than delivered
On the dessert’s enticing promise
Starting slowly, savoring every mouthful
Swirling the sweet flavor around my taste buds
And then devouring every morsel
I enjoyed every moment of the mousse

For a time I sat, alone in the restaurant
Reliving the memory of  that satiating experience

But soon, having only eaten dessert
My hunger returned
Strengthened by the scents emanating from the kitchen
Of the restaurant,
That was starting to feel like home

I smelled fresh herbs and spices
Complex flavors delicately balanced
In masterful combinations
And from a list of tantalizing specials
Each to be devoured in it’s time, in it’s turn
I ordered, with desire and intention
My first main course
