OH, WHAT I’D GIVE FOR IT TO BE FRIDAY

Saturday, August 24th, 2024

Blameless is the working man
Who can tell him,
‘put aside your drink!’

And what do I do
but lay pavers?
My back a singular
cobble in the road
and I turn grey and one
with the rest,
I remember the Tao Te Ching
“Work is done, then forgotten.
Therefore it lasts for ever.”

And this wheel of work
turns over with tenacious
insistence and don’t sit down
it’s time to dig another one
as the song says.

And everyone and everything
has to eat,
like Garry says.

And everything is eating
everything else
like no one even needs to say.
