“A Song for A Melting Day”

Let me put sound to pain.
The hum of the refrigerator at 3 am,
the perfumed air in a fatherless house

And there is a lingering hunger for warmth,
a hunger for a broken morning;
tight sides and over seasoned eggs.

Yet the pain only comes when
the sound becomes noise.
The score to yet another film.

A sound for waiting,
a sound for wanting.
I’d trade it all
for the silence of birds and pages and kisses.
I run towards that symphony,
strive for it.
My eardrums bursting with the breaking of clouds.

I crave this silence,
so I put sound to pain.
